The Park People was founded in 1969 as a non-profit organization to preserve, enhance, and advocate for Denver's parks, recreation resources, open space and urban forest. For 17 years, its annual "Denver Digs Trees" program has been responsible for adding 30,000 public trees to city streets, and engaging hundreds of community volunteers in tree planting projects across Denver.
The Park People has raised millions of dollars in private support for projects and programs to benefit Denver's parks and recreation facilities, and the people who enjoy them. Project support has been given to the Gates Tennis Center, the historic James Fleming House, Civic Center Park, and the Washington Park Boathouse, to name a few. Program gifts have supported the Genesee Challenge Course, "Buds to Bloom" Flowerbed Tours, "Kids Prime Time" and now -
